Prostitution has been called the oldest profession in the world and it seems likely that humans have always traded whatever they had in exchange for something they needed - and the one thing that a human always has is their own body. Everyone trades something about their body, so why not sexual activity as well? ( Edited by mdudlik )

prostitution, per se, is legal in Canada. (http://www.cheapanddirty.ca/safer/safer-press.php) Activities around prostitution however, are not. (living off the avails of, keeping a common bawdy house etc) But, as the government taxes prostitutes (as it does grow ops and meth labs) the question is, are they not also guilty of "living off the avails of"?
Why should prostitution be illegal? It is an essential service that needed in communities. Prostitution is legal in Brazil, because if you're old enough you can do whatever you want with your body. The crime here is the exploitation, like pimps and whorehouses.
