One can teach only so many texts in a course on Post-human literature. I didn't even get to teach my favourites! It will be fun to see what people come up with... I've included graphic novels here, but not movies or manga... or the list would get out of hand quickly! Someone else could start a post-human movie thread... Post-human literature = fictional representation of where humanity is heading, to such an extent that it no longer can be easily classified as "human." This includes cybernetic or biological adaptations to the human body, genetic manipulation, "uploading" one's consciousness into the 'net, the development of entirely new "human" species, and other possibilities yet to be expressed... Here's a link to a trailer for the novel Post-Human: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDCLOz0J-Aw Check it out!
So, people, do you think a text like Diana Wynne Jones's The Tale of Time City counts, if it mentions the creation of an android in the 25th century, and we meet the android, but it is only one of many "futuristic" concepts in the novel? I'm thinking for a text to be considered post-human, it should focus on the issues of humanity and our interaction iwth other, altered augmented or otherwise changed forms of humanity... But then, these are just questions of classification... what about the actual post-humans?
