I'm not glorifying or promoting drug use, but am acknowledging that it exists and that some good movies have been made on the subject. Because Cheech and Chong have made so many films on the subject, I've omitted them from this list, but add away if you must. ( Edited by NotableXception )

movies, drugs, substance abuse, drug abuse, weed, LSD, cocaine, marijuana, heroin
Heroin is featured prominently in this downer of a film about young Scots from a working class neighborhood whose lives are permanently and unglamorously affected by the abuse of smack. This movie put Ewan McGregor on the map.
Obviously, this list wouldn’t be complete without this adaptation of Hunter Thompson’s seminal masterpiece of the same name. If you haven’t read the book, do so, if not, this movie actually does the book justice. Far too many drugs to list here (including several I haven’t known anyone personally to have tried), but funny and brilliantly acted and directed.
Hitman Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) is injected with a "Beijing Cocktail"...a fictional drug that will quickly lead to his demise as it saps the natural adrenaline reserves that keeps his heart pumping (and him alive). Throughout the movie, Chev indulges in all manner of heart stimulating activities and drugs (including cocaine and the public drilling Amy Smart in Chinatown to the delight of onlookers) in order to stay alive.
This is one of the best pot movies ever. An homage to the final days of school in the mid-seventies and the adolescent indulgences that follow. This movie features awesome music and many future box office stars, including Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, Joey Lauren Adams, and Nicky Katt. Much beer is drank, much more pot is smoked. In the words of Rory Cochrane's character, Slater, "You cool, man?"
A biopic about American drug smuggler George Jung, with Johnny Depp in the lead role...little explanation is necessary. Blow is cocaine, and there's a lot of it in this film. The box office receipts may have even surpassed what Jung made in his days as a dealer...almost.
I guess I'd be a horrible movie freak if I neglected to add Scarface to this list. Pacino plays Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee who found a more lucrative occupation than many of his fellow expatriates. Not a coke dealer, he's THE coke dealer in this Brian De Palma classic. "Say 'hello' to my little friend!"
Best pot movie ever! Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, Harland Williams and Guillermo Díaz star as go-nowhere friends whose prime occupation is getting high. If you haven’t seen this movie, do so. I think Jim Breuer’s standup stinks (Chappelle’s is awesome) but Breuer’s character has some hilarious scenes, as does Díaz…particularly the scene in which he gets fired. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen it. Sincerely, the Guy on the Couch.
Too many drugs to list really. Studio 54, an actual glitzy gathering point for New York’s “IN" crowd of the late '70s and early '80s, is the epicenter of drug culture and hedonism for "pretty" people.

Dirk Diggler and his super-Johnson (played by Mark Wahlberg) conquer the world of adult entertainment in this gritty, unglamourized narrative of the porn and drug culture of the late seventies and early eighties. Much coke and speed are consumed by all members of the cast and crew portrayed in the films...the results of which are depressing and tragic. A good cautionary tale about excess.
Based on Jacqueline Susann's novel, this classic features three women on the make with dreams of making it big in Hollywood but who ultimately find their hopes dashed when they fall prey to the lifestyle that accompanies LaLa Land which includes heavy doses of barbiturates and meth.
Multiple subplots, all star cast, great direction and cinematography, this anti-drug film is worth giving a spin...if for no other reason than to see how Hollywood can rake in more revenues than drug cartels while shouldering heavier costs and pitching their product to a more fickle, addict-less crowd of consumers.
