The colors, the COLORS! The only reason this movie beats Minority Report for "What tomorrow should look like" is because everything in The Fifth Element is so vibrant. Minority Report had everyone all blue-gray, and this movie couldn't be further from that. All of the costumes and characters were incredibly unique, there were flying cars and even space ship cruises! This movie makes the future look so beautiful and full of life, even though New York is trashed and everyone lives above the smog.
