A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 satirical science fiction film adaptation of the 1962 novel A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess, about Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell), a charismatic, psychopathic delinquent whose pleasures are classical music (especially Beethoven), rape, and ultra-violence. He is the leader of a small gang of thugs (Pete, Georgie, and Dim), whom he calls his droogs (from the Russian друг, “friend”, “buddy”). Alex narrates most of the film in Nadsat, a fractured, contemporary adolescent argot comprising Slavic (especially Russian), English, and Cockney rhyming slang. ( Edited by Schligge)

Another archetype: Clockwork Orange is, in many ways, the definitive movie about violent youth.. Unlike 2001, it hasn't inspired a lot of allusions and references in other films, perhaps because it's just too disturbing and controversial. Nevertheless, this movie still has greatness written all over it. Interestingly, it's not actually a very violent film; Kubrick was enough of a master that he could twist his viewers around with implied violence and not resort to cheap gore and shocks as many modern directors do.
