Eddie Murphy used to be so funny; what happened? You couldn't drag me to this movie.
Maybe I should have seen it in the theatre, instead of on our 20" television; alas, my wife simply wouldn't go to the theatre with me for this. So, we finally rented it, and wondered how one could get past the abysmal plot, dialogue, and sentimentality to actually enjoy the effects. Boy finds car, car is alien robot in disguise, car plays love songs to help woo girl of interest, car is tortured, boy is sad, boy and car are reunited. (Oh brother.)
With every new episode of Law and Order, I'm amazed by the level of disbelief writers can expect their audience to maintain. The Number 23 pushed past even that most generous boundary to present an absurd premise that could hardly be stitched together. What a piece of poo.
Some movies don't have to be watched to be judged. This one is guilty.
30 minutes shorter and it would have just been a great little summer escape. Instead, the film-makers had to push it. By the time he jumped on the fighter jet, I felt as though the theatre-goers' collective IQ was forced to drop by a point or two.
