Isn't this a weird idea? Pretending we like certain music just so we seem cool enough. Sure--that's sort of the story behind all pop music, but it seems even more strange with indie bands.

Ultimately "indie cred" requires one to like a band that others know, but not too many others. If not enough people like it, the name will hold no currency. If too many people like it, the band is mainstream and hence, shit. Very, very weird.

The bands I listed I don't like, but for some reason are major cred winners, I love Sufjan Stevens, The Fiery Furnaces, Supersystem, Regina Spektor, Joanna Newson, etc.

Wait, Sufjan is amazing in his own right
