The one thing that lingers from my youth is heavy music. My wife hates it, but when I get the chance, I love grabbing these records and turning them up loud. Raa! ( Edited by karj )

Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast

It has been cited as one of the most influential heavy metal albums of all time, and is widely acknowledged as one of the best and most iconic albums of the genre. The Number of the Beast also cemented Iron Maiden as one of "the biggest metal bands on the planet". Of all the songs in the album, "The Number of the Beast", "Run to the Hills" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" remain on the set lists of nearly all of the band's concert tours, with the latter two often used to close a show. All three songs have been released as singles in various forms. The album is also Iron Maiden's highest selling album worldwide with over 14 million sales estimated.

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind

Piece of Mind is the fourth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden, originally released in 1983. The album ranked 21 on IGN's list of the top 25 metal albums. In 1983, Kerrang! magazine published a poll of the greatest metal albums of all time, with Piece Of Mind ranking number 1, and with The Number of the Beast at number 2. Piece Of Mind along with Iron Maiden's follow up studio album Powerslave are the bands second highest selling albums with estimated sales in excess of 13.5 million worldwide. In 1989, Steve Harris announced that Piece Of Mind was the 'best studio album' Iron Maiden had recorded. Until 2000's Brave New World, this album was Bruce Dickinson's favorite album.

 Rage Against The Machine

The first album to successfully merge the amazingly disparate sounds of rap and heavy metal, Rage Against the Machine's self-titled debut was groundbreaking enough when it was released, and many would argue that its importance and influence remains unchallenged and unsurpassed to this day.

Guns \'n\' Roses - Appetite for Destruction

It's hopelessly over-the-top and self-indulgent, but there's something about this album that just seems to still kick ass. It feels like they still were working on this one; whereas, their future efforts often seemed a little silly.

I think "heavy" is a huge and non-specific word to catalog a music style... sorry I disagree

No Killing Joke? Most angry (and influential) heavy band of all time--the band's band.

Motorhead not in the top 5?

Well, I guess this is a generational thing but I think we need a bit of perspective here: Sabbath, AC/DC, Motorhead need to be on top. Soundgarden? Purleeese! Not sure which MBV track we're talking about but Mr Shields is certainly heavy.

One of the key reasons I think that Antichrist Superstar was so sucessful was the role Trent Reznor played in the production of that album. I think Marilyns vocals kind of took it too another level though.
