Television used to seem like a joke; sitcoms were ridiculous and it was rare to find writing that was better than what one would find on the commercials in between. That said, the past few years have been rich with series that have proven better than film. So what's it for you: Survivor, Seinfeld, or the Simpsons? ( Edited by karj )

The good classics always

I enjoyed Heroes so much through the first season. I just wonder if it perhaps just doesn't work on a longer time-line. Lately I just don't really care what happens to the characters. Perhaps I need to give it another chance.

I haven't seen that one yet--so many good shows to watch. :-)

Well, I added George Lopez only because my wife and I bust a gut almost every time we watch it. Also, I must watch a LOT of TV, because I had a hard time voting for my favs because I have so many!

These are shows most readers have more trhan likely
never heard of, but to me, formed a core of quality shows from my younger days.
Peter Gunn for the groundbreaking Mancini Jazz soundtrack, Banyon for Robert Forsters cool 30's noir
style detective, Nichols was Jim Garners effort as a laid back turn of the century small town Sheriff, One Step Beyond for giving insite into the paranormal
events throughout history (and host John Newland's experiment with Dr. Anthony Pruharich with Psylisybi Mexicanis mushrooms on camera showing increased
evidence of Psychic ability after ingestion) and Ripcord for the 57 T-Bird...the stories were good, too! Hard to pick just 5 though, because there are so many to choose.
These, though, formed a core group of shows that influenced my viewing habits. Rocky & Bullwinkle were better than the Simpsons early shows because they were just so darn
deep-witted ! That's my 2 (5) cents worth!

The simpsons jumped the shark a while ago, yes. And they have that immature, tired feeling associated with it now. If you like the simpsons you may seem less sophisticated or cultured etc.

But the earlier half of the series was profoundly, groundbreakingly, phenomonally well done. I think a lot of people know that deep down. It plays every weeknight at 6pm here and has been for as long as I can remember. I watch episodes I've seen a million times and for some reason I still find them highly entertaining. I find a new joke every time. The writing is amazing.

Common What about Family Guy and Futurama !!!

Posted 6 years ago

I'm with you Shane; that last five minutes was some of the most moving television I've ever seen!

Posted 6 years ago

Six Feet Under.

I bought it on DVD boxset after missing it on TV. Quite simply, it is the most powerful, memorable and watchable thing I have ever seen - TV or film.

I cannot recommend it highly enough.

It looks as though Kitchen Nightmares may creep into my top 5...
