Three-buck Chuck! VERY good!
Charles Shaw is a brand of "extreme value" wine. All from California vineyards, Charles Shaw wines currently include Cabernet Sauvignon, White Zinfandel, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Valdigue in the style of Beaujolais nouveau, and limited quantities of Pinot Grigio. These wines are sold exclusively by Trader Joe's grocery stores, and sell for $1.99 in California.

Formerly called two-buck Chuck, I am flabbergasted and very happy to put this at the top of my list as a GOOD red wine. Go, right now, to your nearest Trader Joe's and pick up a bottle($2.99)...you won't be sorry!

I just shared a couple bottles of this last week at our weekly supper club, so here our impressions. First: blech. Seriously, off nose, bitter, thin & unpalatable. Let it sit for a half and hour. OK, noticeably better. We aerated it, that is poured it into a decanter - read "another bottle" - and allowed it to come into contact with plenty of oxygen - read "poured vigorously & swirled", let it stand, and tried it again. Much, much better! This old trick worked wonders, and a $3 bottle of wine (that's right!) drank like a $9 dollar bottle. Conclusion: we'd do it again. Vigorously.
