We like to think that money will solve all of our problems, but in actuality, there seems little evidence of this. It's funny--we choose how we wish to live every day, but instead of really thinking about what we want, we listen to advertisements. As such, I'd like to start this topic to reflect on little things that can help us be happier. ( Edited by karj )

Ways to be happy

Do the thing you would have done, before you grew accustomed to how things are

As a kid I would get really excited about a new toy, but it would lose its luster after owning it for a short while. Sometimes I think we do this with our lives. We often don't do for our spouses, kids, parents, friends what we could, as we grow accustomed to all of them just "being there". Perhaps today is the day to go home and do something unexpected or fun. Alternately, maybe it's the right time to remind someone of how important they are to you.

Make a nice dinner

Something about being in the kitchen, casually cooking something that can be savored by guests seems incredibly therapeutic to me. It's created, consumed and then gone. It can't be documented, saved, stored or managed. Just a fleeting experience shared by friends.

Be spontaneous

I find the simple act of doing different things now and again and breaking out of my everyday shell has made life more enjoyable and exciting.

Go for a run

I don't do it as much as I should, but when I get out for a run I feel alive. Perhaps it's an endorphin thing, or maybe it's the fresh air and music on the iPod. Whatever it is, I wish I did it more often!

Drink a beer on a hot day

Two doesn't work nearly as well, but on a hot sunny day, after a little work or exercise, nothing tastes quite as good that first swig of beer. I think this is made doubly good after a sauna with the sun setting.

Cherish your health, truly cherish it.

This may be the most difficult thing to really do often, but if you can somehow harness your own well being and think how lucky you are to even read this message vs being blind for example, that has to make you feel fortunate and thusly happy.
