Airport security is getting tougher. In order to get through line-ups without a pat down or a cavity search, here are a few tips I've discovered the hard way. ( Edited by MarkKarjaluoto )
travel, Airports, planes
Aside from hello, yes, no, and thank you, I say almost nothing at airport security. Less talk, more movement (and hopefully less strip-searching).
Off with the watch, belt buckle, shoes (which can contain metal), and so on. Although I must say that there was a time when I didn't buzz at all when I was instead subject to a pat down. Thank you YVR security.
I've had a couple of times at the PG Airport when the line-up is so long and Air Canada is making the final call for boarding a particular flight. Getting through earlier avoids that stress. I also like plane-watching at airports, so I find it's a whole lot easier to get through security before the line-up is brutal and then spend some quality time watching the equipment.
No one worries about the wimpy guy
Most of my flights are quick point to point ones. I used to take a carry on for quick trips, but these days (especially with the security liquid fetish), I'll throw it in a checked travel bag. Short flights hopefully mean less of a chance that the airline loses my luggage. And no carry on means a more limited search.
One of the problems of taking every single thing out of your pockets is filling up one of those damn grey bins with a jumbled mess of personal items. I take a clear zip-lock bag, drop everything loose (and I mean everything) in it before I get to the checkpoint, and easily drop the bag in the bin. That cuts off a few minutes of digging through my pockets in front of usually less-than-friendly guards.
Don't laugh - I bet MacGyver could slay a dragon or disarm a nuclear weapon with one of those things.
