Charles and Ray Eames are among the most important American designers of this century. They are best known for their groundbreaking contributions to architecture, furniture design (e.g., the Eames Chair), industrial design and manufacturing, and the photographic arts. http://www.eamesgallery.com

Infamous designer for the FACE magazine and phenominal cover art designer for the likes of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV to name a few. A true legend!
Tell us what you think....
I think that a couple of people have started other ones. That being said, I've never looked at the lists here as definitive. Instead, the discussion seems to be where the interesting part can happen. Then of course, perhaps you could start another couple of topics that would address such points more specifically--might be interesting!. :-)
I wish this list had been parsed out into different types of design, and to distinguish between our perceptions of the quality of a designer's work, and the influence that they are perceived to have.
This topic is unfortunately becoming a little "spammy". A few new users have come on and added themselves to this topic. This is sort of unfortunate. The topic should be about noting relevant designers, not self-promotion. Oscar Jimenez V and Yamila Plaza are certainly not Spiekermann or Tibor, and they make themselves look rather silly by insinuating that they are in fact influential. Thanks to all of the users who have drawn our attention to these items. Yamilla's additions will be removed shortly, and I think we can all just have a nice chuckle at Nelson's cheeky response to Oscar's inclusion on the list. :-)
Tibor should be much much higher on this list!
Ugh. Masinator. Ugh. Ever wonder what would happen if you actually thought before you clicked?
no, no, no. Not shane&shawn, not them at all. unbelievable.
SHANE&SHAWN!!!!!!
I missed Sagmeister's talk in Vancouver last week, but heard that it was great! He certainly has a lot of great stories to tell!
paula? not so sure about that one. I don't think her influence is nearly as expansive as some of the others. Granted, if you look at it from the fact that she's female, she's accomplished more than anyone else in her profession.
Paul, Milton, Stefan, Tibor, Frank. DONE. I was recently hanging out with Stefan in Toronto. He's freakin' tall.
This list may not necessarily reflect the most influential designers of our time, but the most influential for me. These people have all stopped me in my tracks.
