Obama's whole campaign is focusing on how different he is from the politicians who've been in power in Washington. He presents himself as a fresh face to the Washington political arena, one who won't do business the same way it's been done in the past. It's a message millions of voters in the US want to hear. But is he really different from other politicians? He said initially that he would be running his campaign differently, focusing on issues not on personality and on personal attacks. I don't think he succeeded. He did participate in personal attacks against Hillary Clinton. (Yes, she attacked him also, but fighting a campaign differently was not part of her strategy.)

I'm not against Obama, I'm a supporter. But his claim to be different from all the rest ring hollow.

So is Obama really a different politician?

NO

The fundamental question all our recent problems have given us is "What is the ROle of Government" and Obama while much more charismatic is on the same side of the coin as Mccain in Government as a tool. Until we start questioning the fundamental assumptions in which our government operates, no change will occur.

In my mind, Obama is more than one person. Sure, he's an individual, but he also represents the collective sum of our many hopes. In part his presents the belief that we are coming closer to a more equal society.

Tell us what you think....

Aaron: Google "Kevin Rudd" and earwax. Our current Prime Minister (and Obama's new pal) will make you cringe.

I think I will google "Aussie entertainment" instead.

Do you think the Special Olympics comment was on a teleprompter as well?

And yes...there is always a teleprompter!

I was around Advertising and television for 10 years in NYC, EVERY SHOW HAS A TELEPROMPTER...same goes for LENO Show on the other coast!

Wait, wait.... maybe that huge screen at the Inauguration was actually a teleprompter as well.

Your right, the man cannot speak or even think on his own...what is your real name...perhaps we will start a campaign to elect you next as you do really well without a teleprompter!

Aaron - No they don't, and as a result his performance was lacking.

Google Obama with "punch drunk" and "special olympics"

Everyone gets a teleprompter on talk shows?

PS - I don't watch Leno, the man disturbs me.

Posted 4 years ago

Aaron, I agree - he needs to be given a go, but I didn't criticise his decisions so far, just his over reliance on the teleprompter. You thought his performances on Leno and 60 minutes were good?

You know it is funny...both of your countries are connected with the venerable UK...perhaps this is just un-dieing residual Revolutionary War angst!

It is just a joke before everyone slaps me for it!

BTW all - I am not a typical blind American who believes America is the land of milk and honey. I would give up my citizenship in a second for residence in numerous Southern European nations, which we leave un-named so I do not spark any more debate.

Do your research...I shoot wherever I see the need. I am a bit notorious for standing loud on particular topics. You can criticize Obama all you want, just put your ducks in a row before you do.

I have no problems taking on the Canadians if need be, and I still love them. The same goes for the Aussie's.

Point is the man needs a fair shake and if we revisit this issue in a years time it would be more appropriate when some real data has been obtained.

Apologies - that was problogger who started the Evil American list. Karj started the George Bush retirement list. My original question to Aaron stands.

Posted 4 years ago

Aaron, please don't tell me that only Americans are allowed to criticise POTUS. Did you warn off foreigners who made fun of Bush? Eric Karjaluoto made a whole list of evil Americans made up almost entirely of Republicans. I have no problem with that, but I believe he's Canadian - better shoot over there and give him both barrels :)

Hey Maulman...how old are you! Perhaps we should rename you Mallman, since that is probably where you obtained your viewpoint?>

And furthermore I find it extremely interesting when Foreigner's are so naive that they believe that they followed another countries governmental inner workings enough to make commentary on them. Furthermore, I am annoyed by the worldwide commentary on a man who has inherited the biggest mess in financial history and has been in office just over 60 days! Let us not forget how tied all of your economies are to ours, If Obama fails, you will feel it for the foreseeable future. Unless your an American government historian (residing in Australia, wouldn't that be funny!), you might start worrying about your own government and it's leaders and Australia's economy in which you live!

Without a teleprompter he is an absolute ZERO!

Until we start returning to asking fundamental questions about our government no change will occur? Fiat vs. Commodity backed currency, Non-Intervention vs. Intervention, Respect for the 10th amendment

Neither Obama or Mccain address these questions which are at the heart of all our current problems. It's all rhetoric once again in 2008 just with a more inspiring vehicle.

I was gonna vote for Clinton. But its Obama or Mccain, and seriously, who the hell is going to vote for mccain?
