This may be a factor, depending on how the electorate is feeling about climate change come election time. Depends on whether or not the media is focusing on climate change. Whatever the media focuses on, that's uppermost in the minds of Canadians. Right now they're reporting on the increasing cost of oil/gas, so any policies that increase the costs further are not approved of by the people. i.e. carbon tax. When the Liberals in B.C. introduced a carbon tax in Feb 2008 I didn't see any reports in the media against it. Instead, glowing comments. However, now that the price of gas is $1.44 a liter, support for the carbon tax in B.C. has waned. The public is so fickle.
