Ruffian, was an amazing, 2year old unbeaten thoroughbred. She set many track records by multiple lenghts, and no race was a good enough competitor for this filly! A True champion. The only race she ever lost, was the one that took her life.
In the two years of his racing career, Phar Lap won 37 of 51 races he entered, including the Melbourne Cup in 1930 with 9 st 12 lb (61.5 kg, or 138 lbs).[18] In that year and 1931, he won 14 races in a row. From his win as a three-year-old in the VRC St. Leger Stakes until his final race in Mexico, Phar Lap won 32 of 35 races. In the three races that he did not win, he ran second on two occasions, beaten by a short head and a neck, and in the 1931 Melbourne Cup he finished eighth when carrying 10 st 10 lb (68 kg). Phar Lap was shipped to America by boat to Agua Caliente Racetrack http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phar_Lap
Secretariat (March 30, 1970 – October 4, 1989) was an American thoroughbred racehorse. Secretariat won the 1973 Triple Crown, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, and set still-standing track records in two of the three races in the Series, the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24). Like the famous Man o' War, Secretariat was a large chestnut colt and was given the same nickname, "Big Red." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretariat_(horse)
Through his sire, Man o' War is a descendant of the first English Triple Crown champion, West Australian, and King Tom. His line traces to the Godolphin Arabian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_o'_War_(horse)
Seattle Slew (February 15, 1974 – May 7, 2002) was an American thoroughbred race horse who won the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing in 1977, the tenth of eleven horses to accomplish the feat. He remains the only horse to win the Triple Crown while undefeated. In the Blood-Horse magazine List of Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th Century, Seattle Slew is ranked ninth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Slew
Seabiscuit (May 23, 1933—May 17, 1947) was a champion thoroughbred racehorse in the United States. From an inauspicious start, Seabiscuit became an unlikely champion and a symbol of hope to many US citizens during the Great Depression. Seabiscuit became the subject of a 1949 film, The Story of Seabiscuit, a 2001 book, Seabiscuit: An American Legend, and a 2003 film, Seabiscuit, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seabiscuit
Tell us what you think....
How many of you ever saw Secretariat race? I was 15 when he won the Kentucky Derby and was there but, not allowed on th betting floor so, i had to watch from the infield. Hard to see over so many people but, i did manage to crawl to the front to see him hit the wire! Not many can say that and he remains great!
The reason Man o War is not the winner in this little contest is the simple fact that none of us saw the horse race. I think if we had the opinion would be different and MOW would be #1.
