Secretariat (March 30, 1970 – October 4, 1989) was an American thoroughbred racehorse. Secretariat won the 1973 Triple Crown, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, and set still-standing track records in two of the three races in the Series, the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24). Like the famous Man o' War, Secretariat was a large chestnut colt and was given the same nickname, "Big Red." ( Edited by plmiller)

Secretariat(also known as "Big Red") is a great horse of our time. In 1973 he was the first horse in 25 years to win all 3 races of the Triple Crown...he led the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths...an impossible feat. He still holds 2 of those 3 track records to this day.
