Lets hear some ideas on how we can make sure we are making the best experience and debate possible when we submit topics! ( Edited by mdudlik )

Best ways to make a good topic

Make a topic that offers more than one side. Just making a list of "things" wont spark debate

Some topics are easy to answer like "best golfer" but other ones, like "how to quit smoking" are a little tougher

For instance, dont do a list thats "my favorite ex girlfriend" Keep it relateable but still somewhat broad

don't just translate lists you find on other websites, try and bring something new to the table

You should look to see if there are similar topics, if there are differently worded topics before you post yours. So "Best Green Car" and "Top Fuel Saving Cars" dont happen.

A lot of items don't mean much without a little bit of additional information. A quick description with your thoughts and observations can make a big difference. For example, if you list "Dave's Sushi" as your favorite restaurant, perhaps add some notes on why it is so. Is it the portion size? Price? Ambiance? This is the kind of information that helps make a suggestion really great, and encourages people to try out new things. :-)

I believe it has to be something that you are passionate about and something that your interested in seeing the answers to! Otherwise, what is the point, outside of a free t-shirt!

Don\'t post tiny images

I hate going to an item with a tiny image. Do I need to carry around a magnifying glass see stuff on this site? (P.S. The deliberately small image here is intentional. I'm funny, see.)

ya -- almost like a kind of instant "rate this topic" kinda thing ...maybe in roll out of new changes, it could be incorporated as a separate area; separate from this Comments area...

i like that example dprecosk, the idea of pointing out when people make good topics. I think it helps to let people know when they're contributions are enjoyed.

I'd also like to say that the topics shouldn't be too specialized, niche. Making things open ended, with specific ideas could can be tough, but I think it adds a lot.

i know mdudlik put it to Eric to create an image for this topic, but i couldn't help it ... ;-)

...along the lines of "make it interesting" and make it debatable, but make it provocative (but not nasty or cruel)

The best topics get people interested while also making them want to debate their favorites to others. Anything people can relate to would also help.

By the way. Make Five could really use a spell check or editor.
