We've come to see it as the "thinking person's social network." MakeFive is a way for you to connect with others through what you think. It allows you to make top five lists about what you like, hate, believe, remember, and more. You can use these Lists to simply introduce who you are, or you can use the system to meet others who share your thoughts.
The possibilities for this are limitless. Maybe this is a virtual "night at a bar", where you talk about your favorite bands in college and learn about new ones. On the other hand, it could be an opportunity to document the greatest moments of your life, and remind loved-ones of them. What you do with it is up to you, just be creative and have a little fun.
MakeFive is entirely free of charge to users. (We know that you probably don't want to pay for things on the web any more than we do.) We do sell some ads on the site, and that covers our expenses and even promises to leave us with enough to grab the occasional beer on a Friday night.
Almost anything—MakeFive is organized in to six main categories that contain a wide variety of Topics. Simply find the appropriate Category and Topic and create a List of your own. We simply ask that you keep it clean. No hateful, pornographic or harmful content should be posted on MakeFive. For more information on posting standards, please view the Terms of Use and Community Guidelines.
MakeFive is built to support newer versions of browsers including Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer with JavaScript and browser cookies enabled. Although you don't need it, we encourage you to install Adobe Flash, for certain parts of the site.
They are rather brief, but yes, we do have some parameters that we ask MakeFive users to act within. To review them in full, visit the Community Guidelines.
Anyone over sixteen (16) years of age is free to register as a Member of MakeFive, unless doing so violates any local laws.
All visitors can view Lists and browse the site; however, in order to make Lists of your own and comment, you need to become a Member. Additionally, Members are able to create a personal Profile, communicate with other Members, follow what their friends are interested in, and access special offers tailored to their interests.
Just select the "Join" tab near the top of the page. It will lead you to a simple form that asks for some basic information. We've designed it to take less than a minute. From there, a confirmation request will be sent to your email, and you are ready to go. If you'd like, you can also create a quick Profile page at this time.
Shortly after we receive your Membership request, we'll send a confirmation request to the email address you provided. Just click the link "Confirm your email address" to confirm that you would like to join MakeFive. If you don't receive your email within a few minutes, check your spam folder to make sure it wasn't misfiled.
We've set-up a little tool in the registration area that will prompt you immediately if a name is taken, so you can see in real-time what's not available. That being said, you may find that you need to be a little creative with your username selection. Try adding a number (Bob1986), some identifying information (BobDrummer), or bracket the name with other characters (xxxBOBxxx). You can use letters or numbers in your name, but they aren't case sensitive. We do not allow spaces or special characters in usernames.
To retrieve your password, visit the login page (www.makefive.com/login) and click the "I forgot my password" link. After entering your email address and a confirmation code, a new, temporary password will be emailed to you. You can then use that temporary password to access your account.
A verification code is used at times on the MakeFive site, to reduce the incidence of bots. If you are finding it difficult to read one of the verification codes, simply choose "Try another", which will load a new one. If you continue to have trouble reading it, you may want to ask a friend to help confirm the code being displayed.
First check your spam folder. Sometimes messages get in there that shouldn't. If after three hours you still haven't received your confirmation email, report the incident with your name, email address, and how long ago you tried to register.
Your Public Profile is viewable by anyone who visits the site, and can be indexed by search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Depending upon your Privacy Settings, you can choose whether people see your full Profile, friends, photos and notes. If you'd prefer to keep this information to yourself and your friends, just change the settings. This will result in a partial Profile that will limit the information that general visitors can see. Typically, these Profiles show your username, Profile photo (if provided), and the Lists you've added or made suggestions to.
If you choose to show your full Profile, your name is visible to others. To change this, either choose "No" to Full Profile in your Privacy Settings, or leave the name fields blank in the Profile Edit window.
No; all you require to register is an email address. We also need to verify your age, to ensure that you are eligible to use the site. Any Profile information you add in addition to that can be removed or changed as you desire. It is however nice for your friends to be able to learn a little more about you.
Login to MakeFive and select the "My Profile" tab at the top of the page. This will automatically direct you to your Profile page. Under the heading "Profile", you'll find a bar that gives you the option of viewing your current Profile, or editing it. Select "Edit" to modify your Profile as you wish. Upon completing your changes, press "Save" at the bottom of the page.
