About MakeFive

Who are you guys?

MakeFive is a smashLAB initiative. We are a privately-held Canadian interactive services firm run by good friends Eric Shelkie and Eric Karjaluoto. We employ less people than your local laundromat, and Eric's mom is still on staff; nevertheless, in the past years, we've have worked on a number of fulfilling projects including Design Can Change (an effort to unify designers to affect climate change), the shiftCMS web management system, and the award-winning design blog ideasonideas. We are keen believers in experimenting with new ideas, grounded in pragmatic thinking.

Why are you doing this?

We find it really interesting to connect with people, and were feeling as though the social networking sites out there weren't allowing this to happen as naturally as we do in real-life. In our minds, MakeFive has the potential to bring people together by allowing people from around the world to discuss, debate and share with one another in a safe and fun environment. If you are curious, we welcome you to read more about this in our first journal entry.

Service updates

Can I use MakeFive in another country?

Yes, as long as local law doesn't prohibit you from doing so, you are welcome to join in on the fun. Unfortunately, the site is primarily only available in English. With time, we plan to launch the site in multiple languages, so that more people can take part.

What do you have planned for the site?

Oh, we have many, many things in the works. (We're always thinking about what's next.) At the same time, we really want to tailor the site to your demands. Feel free to let us know what you think of the site, so that we can make it better for you. If you want the inside scoop on our plans, we will likely talk about them on our journal. We'll try to keep things current there.

Will you release an API?

Yes? No? Maybe? Uhh... we really don't know yet. Our hands are pretty full as it is right now.

Corporate matters

Are you looking for investors?

Not really. We think that pulling in outside investors could really mess this thing up. To date, we've financed everything ourselves, which has allowed us to take our time with it, and make the site as good as possible. Our worry is that investors are often thinking about the short term, which forces sites to become watered-down and crappy. That said, if someone came along with the right vibe, you never know.

Can I see a prospectus?

Maybe, but like we said, we're not really looking for investors. If you feel that you absolutely have to get involved with MakeFive, you are welcome to drop us a line and tell us why you are so keen. If it sounds like we're on the same page, we can send you some more in-depth information about the company, and perhaps get together for a glass of wine. (You're buying, right?)

How can I advertise on your website?

Visit the advertise section for a brief rundown of available advertising opportunities.

Yes; however, in doing so, please recognize that any questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, or feedback we receive about the site are non-confidential and become our property.
