Worst typefaces of all time

Great type is rare and bad is commonplace, but what about the truly horrible? These are the typefaces that make our world an uglier place. My non-designer friends may think I'm over-the-top on this one, but some of these should be considered a blight on society.

1. Comic Sans

Comic Sans is forever the king of yard sale advertisements and the heading photo for all designers making fun of non-designers. The name comic suggests it should be in a comic. Being surrounded by a bubble gives it a familiarity that proves its worth. Take it out of the bubble and it will burn your eyes. Do not take it out of the bubble.

2. Critter

I have no idea what the intent here is. It doesn't really look "crittery." Is it trying to be playful? Scary? What? I have no clue.

3. Times New Roman

Times New Roman wouldn't really be so bad if it weren't the default serif for everything, everywhere. When I think "Times New Roman," I think of MS Office and high school essays.

4. brush script

It's trying to look like handwriting....but it looks nothing like real handwriting. What you get is just ugly.

5. Papyrus

Eww, I just can't stand the artificially natural fonts. If you want something natural...well, write it for real, and scan it.

6. Impact

Impact isn't really so bad if it's used sparingly, with good kerning, and without flashy colors and high contrast. But it was my go-to font as a kid, so I figure it's probably not a good idea.
