1. Fight Club

When this first came out I had no clue what it was about and, as a result, didn't care to see it. I finally decided to watch it and it instantly became my favorite movie. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton are amazing in this total mind fuck of a movie.

2. The United States of Leland

I've written about this movie several times before and will do so again, as I believe it belongs on this list despite no one ever having heard about it. Ryan Gosling is at his best, and Jeremy Enigk's soundtrack plays perfectly to the emotion of the whole movie.

3. American Beauty

Kevin Spacey was a genius in this movie. The rest of the cast was near-perfect as well but it was Spacey's portrayal of a sex-starved suburbanite father that blew me away. Such a killer film, and the soundtrack was equally as amazing.

4. Amelie

Audrey Tautou ... Man, the first time I saw this movie I fell in love with her cute vulnerability. It's such a touchy-feely, feel good movie with an amazing message. I think everyone should watch Amelie at least once in their lifetime.

5. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump should probably be on just about everyone's list as one of the greatest movies of all time. Tom Hanks' portrayal of the title character was flawless throughout and all the supporting talent only helped to make the movie that much more legendary.

6. Life is Beautiful

Life is Beautiful (or La Vita e Bella as it is called in Italy) is one of the saddest, most beautiful films I've ever watched. There won't be a dry eye in the audience even if someone's seen it a million times, but the message is awesome and the acting is perfect.

7. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

The world will be forever indebted to Hunter S. Thompson's legendary writing ability but this movie is a testament to how his legend will live on. Johnny Depp plays young Hunter as he travels to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, all the while completely hopped up on every kind of drug known to man. Killer movie.

8. Once

Once made such a tiny splash when it first hit that I didn't even hear about it until the main song in the movie began garnering award nods. I watched the movie once, fell in love with it, then watched it two or three more times within that same weekend. GREAT movie with amazing music throughout.
