Rick Steves is God. When travelling in Europe he is my favorite companion. He has never led me astray and also helped make some of the most memorable travel experiences I have. Strawberry wine in Rome, Tapas tours in Madrid, and all on a budget!

2. Lonely Planet

These books are great for the solo traveller, or for those who really want to become immersed in a local culture. I just bought the New Orleans version and it gets me more excited about my trip every page I read.
