4. She taught me how to grow a garden

My mom was always saving her pennies, so gardened as long as I can remember. When we were in elementary school, she let each of us kids have a square yard of her garden to let us plant whatever we wanted. That was a good way to teach us about plant growth, weeds, food, and natural elements needed to nourish a garden.
